Who am I? I am someone on a journey trying to find herself and where she comes from.

Tapscott or Not
For years many have tried to dispute whether my ancestors where indeed of Tapscott blood. They have come up with many theories. We were the result of white Tapscott's of Fauquier County having children with their slaves; we aren't descendants of Tapscotts because we are of color; we aren't descendants of Tapscotts because Harriet Tapscott was not a real Tapscott, she was adopted; we aren't descendants of Tapscotts because we can't provide DNA testing proof that we are of Tapscott blood (the testing required can only be done by tracing males lineage going back. Our line has has several females that prevent this testing from helping prove without a shadow of a doubt we are of Tapscott lineage.). I have been told many reason we we can't be of true Tapscott lineage. My issues is why would we try to claim something we are not? It's not like claiming to be of Tapscott linage provides us any wealth or advantage in life. Why is accepting our line of Tapscotts so hard for some to accept?
While reviewing the DNA matches provided through my AncestryDNA autosomal test I discovered a match to a person who is also is related to Henry "The Immigrant" Tapscott. Proving finally that I am indeed of Tapscott lineage. I hope this silences the skeptics and instead of trying to figure out ways to disprove or discredit our ties to them they will now work with us on picking together our history. #myjourney
